That Fountain That Looks Like a Fish in the Pond Needs A Hat

Recently, a new community campaign has caused a stir on campus. The Fabulous Fish Project, championed by two enthusiastic fourth-formers, is an initiative to put a hat on the fish fountain in the pond. The project’s mission statement notes that “not only would this spice up the life of the fish, who remains unnamed, but it would also be a valuable contribution to an older part of campus by the newer students, creating intergenerational connections to bond the school in this divisive time.” The project also claims that the fish itself would surely support this idea, as, being older, they yearn for a fashionable update. Most importantly, however, the organization stresses that “hats are classy, and so is the fish.” When reporters reached out to the Choate community for comment, there was widespread support for the project. “I really think that this could bring a bit of pizzazz to the pond,” said a faculty member who wished to remain unnamed, “It really would elevate the entire appearance of the pond. A good hat can work wonders, it’s true.” Though the majority of the responses were positive, there was some notable backlash. “I find this so strange,” said an anonymous sixth former, “Why do people feel the need to change the classics? You aren’t going to go around trying to change the school colors, why should the fish statue be any different? It’s disrespectful.” The campaign leaders declined to comment directly, but the Fish Project Twitter later tweeted that “change is necessary for progress and style.” Whether or not the school will choose to give the fish a hat remains unclear, but currently, the main focus is on what type of hat the fish may receive.
