Choate continues to improve its curriculum and extracurricular options so students can grow into well-rounded citizens of the Earth. In a new effort to expand the prep student mind, Choate Rosemary Hall will be introducing an IMPACT test preparatory course, in addition to the preexisting preparatory classes for the ACT and SAT.
This new course will cover multiple sections of the infamous IMPACT Test, such as the difficult pattern identification and the formidable circle following task. Throughout the program, preliminary tests (PIMPACTs) will be administered to test student progress. This new course magnifies the importance the school places on preparing students not only for major stages of life in post-secondary education, but also life in general. This preparatory program is unique to Choate, keeping the school on the cutting edge.
Within the student body, the new guide for students taking the IMPACT test has been a big hit amongst fifth and sixth formers. Many are becoming much more interested in the IMPACT Test over the standard SAT or ACT. College counselors believe this new addition will help give Choate students get an additional edge over the competition in the college application process.
Until now, the IMPACT test was most popular amongst student athletes, but students of all backgrounds and abilities have begun to find solace in the creation of the prep course. Students Tessa Milly On ‘21 and Felix “Flex” Zoan ‘20 contributed how they felt.
“I’ve already taken the ACT twice and the SAT thrice,” stated new student Tessa ‘21. “No matter what, I couldn’t find a way for either of the tests to work in my favor. I didn’t even want to consider the IMPACT after hearing how hard it could get, but this new prep course has given me some hope.” While students like Tessa feel that this could be their saving grace, some believe it was just a matter of time.
“I’ve been calling this,” proclaims Flex ‘20. “In my four years at this school, I have taken the IMPACT Test 14 times. As a water polo athlete and football recruit, I have been working hard to make sure my tests reflect my performance. I’m glad that my fifteenth time with the test will finally be with the help of this new course. It’s time that we get recognized for the hard work we have put in for the IMPACT test.”
The course is priced at $950 per minute for eight classes each term. The course will meet for 2 hours on Saturday nights after curfew at Brownell. Absences are not tolerated and result in immediate removal from the course. At press time, the winter and spring term sections have been filled.
